“Untitled” by Ubaldo Bartolini, created in 1982, belongs to a significant phase of the artist’s research, in which landscape is interpreted through a vision suspended between direct observation and an evocative dimension. The work presents a broad and atmospheric composition, in which the depth of space is conveyed through the succession of planes, light and the relationship between vegetation, architecture and sky.
In “Untitled”, the landscape takes on an almost silent and contemplative character. The presence of the tower and ruins on the left introduces an architectural element that enters into dialogue with the surrounding nature, while the large masses of vegetation and the clouds contribute to defining a balanced and highly scenographic composition. Furthermore, the modulation of greens, browns and the lighter tones of the sky creates a rarefied atmosphere capable of suggesting depth and distance.
Of particular importance is the participation in the 1982 Venice Biennale, documented by the label on the back of the work and by the photographic authentication signed by the artist. Indeed, the certificate records the technique, dimensions and exhibition at the Biennale Arti Visive 82, with the stamp “Photo Carlo Pieroni”. Consequently, the work preserves particularly significant documentation for reconstructing its exhibition history.
