The work “Intersuperfice Curva Nera”, created by Paolo Scheggi, represents one of the finest examples of the artist’s exploration of pictorial spatiality and visual perception. Executed during the 1960s, it belongs to the celebrated Intersuperfici series, through which Scheggi investigated depth and three-dimensionality by means of superimposed monochrome canvases.
In this particular work, the black surface opens into carefully calibrated circular forms. Through a sophisticated interplay of light and shadow, they generate a sense of dynamic depth and inner movement. Associated with the ideas of Spatialism and Programmed Art, Scheggi sought to transcend the traditional concept of the two-dimensional picture, transforming it into a mental and perceptual space.
The choice of absolute black enhances the role of light as a sculptural element, while the internal curves evoke a harmonious tension between solid and void. As a result, “Intersuperfice Curva Nera” stands as a work of formal rigor and profound spirituality, in which material becomes a vehicle for pure abstraction and vision itself is transformed into experience.
