The painting “Il Campo Giallo”, created by Nino Springolo around 1928, clearly conveys the Venetian artist’s landscape sensibility in the years of his full maturity. The work depicts a broad rural view, dominated by a ploughed field in yellow-ochre tones, crossed by rows of trees and opening towards a horizon dotted with buildings and vegetation.
From a compositional point of view, the scene is constructed through a broad and airy vision, in which colour assumes a structural role. In particular, the warm field of the ground contrasts with the greens and blues of the surrounding landscape, creating a measured yet vibrant chromatic balance. Consequently, the pictorial surface appears animated by a short and dynamic brushstroke, suggesting light and movement without resorting to excessive description.
Nino Springolo, active between Veneto and Lombardy, developed a painting connected to the post-impressionist tradition, yet open to a personal rendering of the natural subject. In fact, in his landscapes there emerges a constant interest in lightand in the structure of the agricultural territory, observed with direct attention. At the same time, the use of colour reveals a modern sensibility, far from purely naturalistic intentions.
