“Raw Radiating II” by Marco Gastini, created in 1981, represents a significant example of the material and spatial research developed by the artist from the 1970s onwards.
From a formal point of view, the pictorial surface appears crossed by dynamic signs and irregular stratifications, where the gesture is never random but responds to a precise constructive tension. In particular, the alternation between denser areas and visually open zones suggests a direct relationship between energy, space and matter. At the same time, the insertion of targeted chromatic interventions interrupts the continuity of the ground, generating a visual vibration consistent with the concept of “radiation” evoked by the title.
Marco Gastini, a Turin-born artist active within the context of Italian analytical and post-minimalist art, built his poetics by investigating the boundary between painting and sculpture. In fact, his works are not limited to two-dimensionality, but aim to involve real space through materials, signs and physical tensions. Consequently, also in Raw Radiating the canvas becomes a field of action, rather than a simple support.
