“La baie” by Marc Chagall, created in 1962, depicts a scene set along a bay, populated by animal and natural figures arranged according to a non-perspectival narrative logic. As a result, the landscape appears constructed through overlapping planes of colour, where colour itself assumes a structural role. At the same time, the free and continuous line defines recognisable forms without resorting to realistic description.
