The work “Marciare non marcire” by Guglielmo Sansoni known as Tato fits coherently within the Futurist production of the Bolognese artist, one of the protagonists of the second generation of Italian Futurism. Signed lower down and bearing on the reverse title, signature and designation “Futurista”, the work presents iconographic and conceptual elements fully consistent with the language of the movement.
From a compositional point of view, the scene is constructed through simplified and dynamic forms, where stylized airplanes cross the space with decisive trajectories. In particular, the motif of flight refers directly to Aeropainting, a field in which Tato played a central role. At the same time, the inclusion of symbolic elements and the chromatic choice help to strengthen the ideological message expressed by the title, which recalls the idea of action, movement and discipline.
Guglielmo Sansoni, known as Tato, officially joined Futurism in the 1920s and actively participated in its diffusion, both artistically and theoretically. In fact, he was among the signatories of the Manifesto of Aeropainting and developed a painting oriented towards the celebration of modernity, speed and the technological dimension. Consequently, “Marciare non marcire” can be read as an effective synthesis of his poetics.
