Giovanni Malizia, Safe, Milan, 1822.

The safe signed by Giovanni Malizia, created in Milan in 1822, represents a rare example of early nineteenth-century iron craftsmanship, in which security function and artisanal quality coexist with a strong decorative attention. Objects of this kind were intended for the storage of documents, valuables, and precious goods, but at the same time were conceived as solid and representative furnishings.

The studded iron structure immediately reveals the robust character of the work. However, the surface is not treated in a purely functional manner: the repoussé rosettes, the studs arranged in a regular rhythm, and the large door with its complex locking system transform the safe into an object of remarkable visual impact. Furthermore, the interior, organized with small drawers and compartments, demonstrates particular attention to organization and practical use.

Particularly interesting is the presence of the original wooden base and the upper cornice, elements that give the ensemble the appearance of a true study or library cabinet. The contrast between the metal mass and the wooden parts further enhances the architectural character of the work.

More than a simple security container, this safe therefore stands as a testimony to nineteenth-century material culture, in which technique, craftsmanship, and decoration merge into an object of great solidity and strong historical presence.

Description: In studded iron enriched with repoussé rosettes, retaining its original wooden base and upper cornice, bearing inside the door the signature, date, and place of production, H cm 186x80x48.
