Giovanni Frangi, “Santa Giulia Alta”, 2005.

Giovanni Frangi (1959), “Santa Giulia Alta”, 2005.

The work “Santa Giulia Alta” by Giovanni Frangi is a perfect example of the artist’s ability to merge abstraction and nature into a deeply evocative pictorial vision. In this composition, Frangi employs a palette dominated by greys, blacks, and orange tones, creating a visual rhythm in which the painted matter itself becomes an inner landscape. Vertical drips and layered colour fields suggest the memory of a place, while simultaneously conveying its transformation over time.

Born in Milan in 1959, the artist is one of the leading figures of contemporary Italian art. He has developed a highly personal language that combines gesture and control, emotion and structure. This work reflects his ongoing investigation into the relationship between humanity and the environment, as well as between painting and perception.

Through a continuous dialogue between order and chaos, the painted surface appears to breathe, while light filtering through the dense brushwork creates a suspended and immersive dimension. In “Santa Giulia Alta”, Giovanni Frangi invites the viewer into a visual experience where landscape becomes a symbol of silence, memory, and renewal.
