The work “Brushes Collection” by Arman (Armand Pierre Fernandez) is an iconic example of his artistic vision, centred on seriality and the transformation of everyday objects into art. In this composition, the artist arranges a series of paintbrushes saturated with colour across a white surface, creating a dynamic dialogue between painting and sculpture. Vibrant tones of red, yellow, blue, and black intertwine through drips and controlled gestures, while the brushes themselves become the physical protagonists of the work.
A leading figure of the Nouveau Réalisme movement, Arman consistently explored the relationship between creation and accumulation, transforming ordinary tools into symbols of artistic production. In “Brushes Collection”, the modular repetition of objects and the material presence of paint generate a powerful visual effect, in which the energy of the artistic gesture is crystallized in time.
Through a language that is both direct and conceptually rich, the artist reflects on the very nature of art, inviting the viewer to question the meaning and value of the creative act. The work thus becomes a metaphor for the artist’s practice itself, where each brushstroke, though repeated, retains its own unique and irreproducible identity.
