“Untitled” by Angelo Savelli is a coherent and mature example of the artist’s investigation into monochrome abstraction.
At first glance, the composition is based on a reduced chromatic range dominated by white, which Savelli employs not as a neutral value but as an active field of perception. However, on closer observation, the material variations generated by the interaction between the canvas and the applied tulle become apparent. In this way, the surface is never completely uniform, but instead animated by subtle irregularities that modulate light and create delicate shadows.
Furthermore, the absence of a specific title is not incidental. Rather, it reflects the artist’s intention to remove the work from any narrative reference, inviting the viewer to focus exclusively on the visual experience. Consequently, the piece fully belongs to Savelli’s artistic path, through which, from the 1960s onwards, he developed a rigorous, essential painting free from expressive gesture.
From a historical perspective, the artist was an important figure within international Minimalism and analytical painting, working extensively between Italy and the United States.
