AD364 dining table by Alain Delon for Maison Jansen, 1972.

Alain Delon for Maison Jansen, AD364 dining table, Paris, 1972.

The AD364 dining table designed by Alain Delon for Maison Jansen in Paris in 1972 represents an emblematic example of the sophisticated and scenographic luxury that characterizes part of 1970s French design. Maison Jansen, the historic maison active between the 19th and 20th centuries, was in fact renowned for its ability to reinterpret classical taste through precious materials and modern decorative solutions.

In this work, the structure of the table stands out for a refined balance between geometric rigour and material sophistication. Brass, copper and chrome-plated metal in fact coexist in an essential yet highly decorative construction, where every detail contributes to defining an elegant and contemporary image. However, the most characteristic element is undoubtedly the backlit tortoiseshell-effect Plexiglas top, inserted between two glass tops. This solution gives depth and luminosity to the entire surface.

Moreover, the edges in grey burr maple introduce a warm and natural component that balances the presence of the metallic and reflective surfaces. The combination of materials, studied with great attention, creates a play of contrasts typical of international glamour design of the early 1970s.

On the other hand, the production signed Alain Delon for Maison Jansen reflects the sophisticated taste of the period, oriented towards furnishings with a strong scenic presence. Overall, the AD364 table therefore stands as a piece of furniture capable of combining decorative research, material innovation and formal balance, fully conveying the elegant and theatrical character of French design of the period.
