MODERN & CONTEMPORARY ART
On April 17th, the new Gregory’s appointment took place: an auction dedicated to modern and contemporary art featuring an eclectic collection of unique works and multiples created by Italian and international artists.
We are proud to represent our beloved city with some works by the Bolognese Master Giorgio Morandi, beloved by both Italian and international audiences. Describing the artist’s work was the drawing “Natura morta”, a pencil on recto verso paper published in E. Tavoni’s volume, and the two etchings “Il giardino di via Fondazza” and “Veduta della Montagnola di Bologna”, included in L. Vitali’s renowned catalogue.
Moving on to other Bolognese artists who have made their mark in the history of 20th-century art and continue to do so today: we refer to Sergio Romiti with an oil on canvas from 1967 and Concetto Pozzati with his painting “Spettacolo ortagonale“ from 1963.
It’s impossible not to mention Carlo Carrà‘s etching “Onde“, created in 1924, and the rare etching by Lucio Fontana from 1965.
Continuing the journey through eras and styles, the focus on Italian 20th-century art extended to other prominent artists such as Valentino Vago, with the large oil on canvas “E. 293“. Among other iconic artists to be featured are Franco Angeli, with a painting from the 1970s, Omar Galliani, with the work “Albedo“ from 1984, and multiples by masters who have shaped the artistic expression of the last century. We recall, for example, Giorgio De Chirico and his “Trovatore“, Marino Marini with “Shakespeare I“, Massimo Campigli with “Teatro I”, the fascinating etching “Storia del Martin Pescatore“ by Luigi Bartolini, the colorful multiples (lots 51 – 52) by Giuseppe Viviani, and the ironic assemblage by Enrico Baj.
There are also examples of extraordinary international artists, such as Joan Mirò, whose lithograph “Plate 8 – Ode a Joan Mirò“ was offered at auction, and Jean-Michel Folon, presented at the event with “La Nuit du Temps“, a lithograph from 1974. Among other carefully selected works for the event, multiples by Max Ernst, Milton Glaser, Roberto Matta (lots 33 – 34 – 35 – 36), Ossip Zadkine, and Joe Tilson stand out.
