L’opera “The work “Untitled” by Vincenzo Satta belongs to the mature phase of the artist’s research, characterized by an essential, meditated pictorial language strongly focused on the relationship between surface, mark and colour. In these years, in fact, Satta developed an increasingly rarefied painting, in which the image tends to dissolve in favour of a slow and contemplative visual perception.
From a formal point of view, the painting presents itself as a large uniform chromatic field, on which fluid and irregular traces emerge, obtained through glazes and pictorial superimpositions. The delicately modulated colour does not construct a recognizable figure, but rather a continuous visual field, in which the pictorial gesture manifests itself in a controlled and measured way. However, these traces do not appear accidental: on the contrary, they suggest an internal, almost organic rhythm, guiding the gaze within the composition.
In this sense, “Untitled” fits coherently within the poetics of Vincenzo Satta, an artist active in the Italian artistic panorama of the second half of the twentieth century, whose research progressively moved towards a lyrical abstraction, free from explicit narrative references. Moreover, the choice of untitled reinforces the intention to leave the viewer an open interpretative space, not bound by semantic indications.
Therefore, this work should be understood as a pictorial reflection on time, perception and the materiality of colour, in which compositional balance and the quality of the surface assume a central role, producing a silent and deeply concentrated image.
