“Section Demonstrating Pre and Post Decorative Schemes”, work by Pablo Bronstein, 2014.

Pablo Bronstein (1977), “Section demonstrating pre and post decorative schemes”, 2014.

The work “Section Demonstrating Pre and Post Decorative Schemes” by Pablo Bronstein, created in 2014, depicts a frontal architectural section constructed through rigorous symmetry and the modular repetition of structural elements. However, at the centre of the image, an irregular area appears fragmented or excavated, revealing a richly decorated and polychrome interior. In this way, the work contrasts an austere external surface with a more elaborate inner dimension, suggesting a reflection on the relationship between function, ornament, and representation.

From a formal perspective, the drawing combines graphic precision with measured painterly interventions. Furthermore, the controlled use of watercolour introduces chromatic variations that clearly distinguish the different parts of the building. As a result, the image acquires an analytical, almost didactic character, while maintaining a strong conceptual component.

The artist, Argentine-born but active internationally, is known for a practice centred on historical architecture, ornamental language, and the theatricality of constructed space. In particular, his works combine drawing, irony, and erudite references. Therefore, “Section Demonstrating Pre and Post Decorative Schemes” represents a coherent example of Pablo Bronstein’s practice, in which architectural analysis becomes both a critical and visual tool.
