Mimmo Paladino (1948), “Battaglia di San Romano” sideboard, 2010.

The “Battaglia di San Romano” sideboard by Mimmo Paladino takes the form of an elegant monolith in matte black lacquered wood, covered on three sides with a dense white graphic decoration recalling signs, numbers, and stylized profiles: a true visual field charged with tension. It is supported by painted metal legs—one black and one white—which contribute to giving the form an upward momentum. Two painted metal lances symbolically pierce the structure, emerging from the body of the cabinet and becoming architectural elements that converge above the top surface.

In this furnishing project, which is also a functional sculpture, the matte black finish conveys a powerful visual presence. It enhances the white decoration and transforms the sideboard into an object of remarkable graphic and theatrical impact.

The artist translates the energy of the famous Renaissance battle into a contemporary language: the lances suggest movement and conflict, the black surfaces become a stage for the white symbols, and the result is a furnishing element that transcends function to become a visual icon. Ideal for refined and bold interiors, this “Battaglia di San Romano” sideboard is an aesthetic statement that combines elegance, strength, and thought, in perfect harmony with Mimmo Paladino’s artistic vision.

Description: Two-door sideboard in matte lacquered and printed wood, with two lances symbolically piercing the cabinet; legs and lances in painted metal, edition of 99 examples, H cm 106x120x50 (maximum height cm 200).
