The “Bocca della Verità” bed is a powerful example of the artistic vision of Mario Ceroli. Created around 1972 in solid Russian pine for Poltronova, it features a monumental headboard reproducing in relief the famous symbolic Mouth of Truth.
Born in 1938, Ceroli developed an artistic practice centred on wood, emblematic silhouettes, and furniture pieces that become inhabitable sculptures. His distinctive style is characterized by essential forms, archetypal signs, references to classical memory, the use of humble materials, and a strong engagement with space.
With this work, the artist transforms the bedroom into a theatrical environment: the headboard takes on the presence of the “mouth”, seemingly questioning the viewer, becoming a symbol of truth and of the relationship between everyday life and space.
Part of the “Mobili nella Valle” series, the work thus becomes a design object that challenges the distinction between art and furniture. The monumentality of the headboard, the choice of solid Russian pine, and the natural, understated finish combine to create an interior furnishing that is also a visual and conceptual experience.
