The demi-lune sideboard by Louis Sue and André Mare represents a refined re-edition of a model linked to the Art Déco taste, inspired by the original presented at the International Exhibition in Paris in 1925. The work therefore recalls one of the fundamental moments in the definition of modern decorative arts, when furniture, decoration and high-quality craftsmanship were closely connected.
The rounded structure, made of solid maple, with veneers in érable and rosewood, gives the piece a soft yet architectural line. However, the most distinctive element is the inlaid front, decorated with a lively seabed. The design, attributed to Mathurin Méheut, features turtles, corals, algae and stylized aquatic forms, constructed through woods of different essences.
Moreover, the composition of the doors creates a strong decorative effect, while remaining ordered and coherent with the profile of the furniture. The feet finished in fine gold leaf add a precious note, while the marble top helps to reinforce the elegant and functional character of the sideboard.
