The “Mogambo” vase by Lino Tagliapietra for EffeTre International, created in Murano in 1989, is a significant example of Venetian glassmaking in the late twentieth century. Tagliapietra, one of the most internationally celebrated master glassmakers, played a decisive role in the renewal of Murano glass, combining traditional technical expertise with formal experimentation.
The work is distinguished by its blown glass body of oval section, with a diagonally cut neck. This feature gives the vase a dynamic profile, almost suggesting movement, while enhancing the vertical tension of the form. However, the most distinctive element is the decoration of black and white canes, arranged in a radial pattern that creates a striking optical effect.
Furthermore, the two red lines running along the sides introduce a sharp chromatic contrast, accentuating the curvature of the body and bringing additional energy to the composition. Although restrained in its colour palette, the surface achieves remarkable visual complexity through its carefully constructed design.
The acid-etched signature “Effetre International Murano 1989” beneath the base confirms the production and places the work within a precise moment of the artist’s career. Overall, “Mogambo” demonstrates Tagliapietra’s ability to transform glass into form, rhythm, and movement while maintaining a strong connection to the great Murano tradition.
