Ico Parisi per Ariberto Colombo, Sei sedie modello “1950.1”, Anni ’50.

The six model “1950.1” chairs designed by Ico Parisi for Ariberto Colombo in the 1950s are a significant example of post-war Italian design, created during a period when formal research, craftsmanship, and a new vision of modern domestic living began to converge with remarkable intensity. Parisi, the Como-born architect and designer, was among the most original figures of the Italian twentieth century, capable of combining design culture, structural elegance, and exceptional attention to craftsmanship.

In this model, the walnut structure reveals a remarkable sensitivity to proportion. The slightly curved backrest, suspended between two slender uprights, gives the chair a light and distinctive profile. Furthermore, the tapered legs enhance the sense of visual lightness, while the upholstered seat introduces a level of comfort fully suited to domestic use.

The Gobelin tapestry upholstery adds a decorative note without compromising the overall balance of the design. What makes these chairs particularly interesting, however, is their ability to combine simplicity and refinement: every element appears carefully considered in order to achieve a form that is functional, elegant, and restrained.

The inclusion of this model in the catalogue raisonné dedicated to Ico Parisi confirms its historical and design significance. Overall, the six “1950.1” chairs stand as an important testament to the collaboration between Ico Parisi and Ariberto Colombo, as well as to the quality and sophistication of Italian furniture design in the 1950s.
