The 925 silver pitcher designed by Carlo Scarpa for Cleto Munari and produced by Rossi&Arcandi in 1994 represents a significant example of design research applied to author’s silverware. In particular, the work combines geometric rigour, attention to material and a strong sculptural quality, transforming a functional object into a piece with a distinctive formal presence.
The cylindrical body in hammered silver is defined by a vibrant surface that reflects light in an irregular and dynamic way. Furthermore, the triangular spout introduces a sharp, almost architectural element, while the large shaped side handle creates a bold graphic sign, balanced between function and invention. Overall, the pitcher clearly expresses the relationship between essentiality, proportion and material that characterises Carlo Scarpa’s language.
Of particular interest is also the presence, under the base, of the engraved signature, the manufacturer’s mark, the hallmarks indicating 925 silver, the silversmith’s initials, the production and year indications, and the edition number 09-300-94. Consequently, the object preserves complete and significant material documentation for its identification and placement within the production.
