“D 154” by Carlo De Carli for Sormani, created between 1963 and 1964, represents a significant example of Italian design from the second half of the twentieth century. The chest of drawers is distinguished by an essential and rigorous structure, in which proportions, colour and metal details combine to create a strong and distinctive identity.
In “D 154”, the red lacquer enhances the linear geometry of the piece and accentuates its visual presence. The front, with three drawers, is punctuated by nickel-plated metal knobs, while the metal feet introduce a contrasting element that lightens the structure and emphasises its modern character. Furthermore, the balance between functionality and formal research fully reflects Carlo De Carli’s design approach.
The collaboration with Sormani places the model within one of the most interesting periods of Italian production in the 1960s, when domestic furniture became a field of experimentation for new languages, materials and construction solutions. Overall, the chest of drawers combines quality of execution, compositional clarity and a strong chromatic identity.
