“Memory of the Mother II”, wood sculpture by Aron Demetz, 2004.

Aron Demetz (1972), “Memory of the Mother II”, 2004.

The sculpture by Aron Demetz, entitled “Memory of the Mother II”, represents a figure shown as a half-length bust and treated with a linear modelling that highlights the distinctive qualities of linden wood, a material the artist frequently employs for its versatility. Furthermore, the face, slightly inclined downward, suggests a contemplative attitude, while the smooth surface of the body emphasises the natural variations of the wood.

Demetz, born in Val Gardena and renowned for his long-standing dedication to wood sculpture, often works with essential human figures, seeking a balance between tradition and contemporary experimentation.

At the same time, the choice of a restrained colouration and a uniform treatment allows the artist’s focus on pure form to emerge clearly. Demetz develops his research through controlled interventions, often aimed at enhancing the relationship between figure and material; as a result, “Memory of the Mother II” remains legible in its proportions without resorting to decorative elaboration.
