The “Still Life with Table, Embroidered Fabric, Fruit, Clock and Basket with Goldfinch” by Antonio II Gianlisi represents a significant example of Emilian still-life painting between the 17th and 18th centuries. This was a field in which the artist distinguished himself through his refined ability to combine decorative richness and attention to reality. Active between Parma and northern Italy, Gianlisi developed a language influenced by the Baroque tradition, but oriented towards a more intimate and controlled rendering of objects.

Furthermore, the presence of the clock introduces a possible symbolic reference to time and transience, a recurring theme in Baroque still-life painting. Likewise, the ripe fruit and the small bird help to suggest a reflection on the natural cycle of life.
From a technical point of view, Gianlisi demonstrates remarkable skill in rendering surfaces. The fabrics, metals and natural elements are treated with careful attention to light and descriptive precision. The result is an image of great elegance, in which the richness of the objects is balanced by an orderly composition.
Overall, the work stands as a coherent example of the artist’s production. He is capable of combining decorative value and symbolic depth within a solid and well-defined compositional structure.
