"Untitled" by André Lanskoy, abstract painting with vivid colors and expressive composition

André Lanskoy (1902-1976), “Untitled”, 1971.

The work “Untitled” by André Lanskoy represents one of the most intense expressions of his abstract lyrical language. The composition reveals the gestural and chromatic power for which the artist became renowned. In this work, areas of blue, green, red, and yellow intertwine in a dynamic rhythm, creating a continuous vibration between form and colour. The energy of the brushwork and the richness of the material surface transform the composition into an emotional field, where abstraction is not a denial of reality but rather its poetic transfiguration.

A Russian-born painter who later became a French citizen, André Lanskoy was one of the leading figures of Lyrical Abstraction and closely associated with the School of Paris. Throughout his career, he gradually abandoned figuration in favour of a language centred on the expressive power of colour, conceived as a spiritual and musical medium. His painting, characterized by spontaneous gesture and rich chromatic contrasts, conveys movement, emotion, and depth.

In this untitled work, the essence of Lanskoy’s artistic research is fully evident: giving form to the invisible through colour and gesture. As a result, shapes seem to emerge and dissolve, suggesting a continuous dialogue between light and shadow, structure and intuition.
