The rare oval tray “Garden of Castile” by Alessandro Stefani Silversmith represents a refined example of 20th-century Bolognese silverware, in which formal rigour and decorative richness coexist with great balance. The work is distinguished by a smooth and taut surface, based on a sober line, but enriched at the ends by handles of strong ornamental impact.
The decoration with cornucopias, applied flower vases, enamels and hardstone cabochons introduces a precious and lively repertoire, capable of transforming the tray from a simple serving object into a decorative element of representation. However, the richness of the details does not weigh down the composition: on the contrary, the polychrome inserts interact with the shine of the silver and enhance its material quality.
Moreover, the title “Garden of Castile” suggests an elegant and almost fairy-tale imagery, linked to nature, abundance and the European ornamental tradition. The floral motifs and hardstones reinforce this interpretation, creating a refined yet orderly ensemble.
