Alain Delon "AD800" stereo entertainment unit, 1975, with brass structure, smoked acrylic console and integrated Thorens, Bang & Olufsen and Sony hi-fi components.

Alain Delon, AD800 Stereo Cabinet – Custom entertainment unit, 1975.

The AD800 stereo cabinet designed by Alain Delon in 1975 represents a particularly interesting example of the encounter between design, technology and luxury furnishing in the international culture of the 1970s. Conceived as true integrated entertainment units, works of this type reflect a period in which audio equipment became central elements of the most sophisticated domestic interiors.

In this work, the structure assumes an almost architectural character, developing around a central column clad in brass, adorned with a selector indicator decorated with relief metals and enamel. However, the strong scenic presence of the whole does not compromise functionality. The smoked acrylic console in fact integrates several high-quality audio devices, including a Thorens turntable, a Bang & Olufsen tower, a Sony cassette player and compartments dedicated to cassette storage.

Moreover, one of the most original aspects of the design is the solution adopted for the speakers, concealed through a sequence of protruding brass discsThe combination of metal surfaces, smoked acrylic and technological elementscontributes to creating a futuristic yet elegant image, fully consistent with the glamorous taste of the decade.

On the other hand, 1970s design shows a growing interest in multifunctional objects capable of merging aesthetics and technical innovation. Overall, the AD800 stereo cabinet therefore stands as a creation of strong visual impact. Decorative luxury, audio technology and formal experimentation coexist in a balance perfectly representative of the period.
