Gregory’s presents ECLECTIC, a new auction dedicated to the broadest spectrum of collecting, featuring 295 lots including Works of Art, Silver, Furniture, Paintings, Sculptures, Oriental Art, Glass, Mirrors, and curiosities from the natural world.
The catalogue brings together a contemporary collection of eclectic art, where different periods, artistic languages, and cultural influences coexist in a captivating journey. Alongside antique furniture are decorative works, collectors’ objects, and creations distinguished by their strong visual character.
A significant section of the sale comes from the Stefani Private Collection, belonging to a renowned family of Bolognese silversmiths. The collection preserves the personal character of an ensemble built around craftsmanship, materials, and workshop practice: silver, silver-plated wares, frames, tableware, and decorative objects are presented alongside models, casting trials, bronze sculptures by Enea Stefani, ceramics, prints, and collectible curiosities. Together, they offer a rare insight into the creative workshop of a family deeply connected to the art of metalworking, where artisanal tradition, formal research, and experimentation meet.
The spirit of wonder extends throughout the catalogue, with objects that evoke the fascination of the historic cabinets of curiosities: cameo-carved emu eggs, candlesticks incorporating ostrich eggs, boxes made from natural materials, silver-mounted shells, coral branches, cameos, and small decorative works. These are complemented by a selection of ceramics, glass, and Oriental art, including Japanese and Chinese vases, European porcelain, African art, and objects drawn from a variety of distinguished collections.
With ECLECTIC, Gregory’s concludes the season with a final summer auction dedicated to works of art, furniture, and collecting. This rich and varied sale is designed to accompany collectors, enthusiasts, and curious visitors alike towards the forthcoming autumn auctions, which will be announced shortly.
