Auction 89 – MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY
Paintings – Graphic– Multiples – Scultures
16th of Dicember 2025 – 15:00 p.m.
The upcoming sale is dedicated to Modern and Contemporary Art and features a varied selection of works ranging from painting to sculpture, and from photography to artist’s multiples. The catalogue offers a broad overview of the late twentieth century and the most recent artistic explorations, bringing together both Italian and international names.
Among the most significant presences is Mattia Moreni with the large 1969 canvas Pelliccia Rosa (le Calbane vecchie): an intense work that captures the full creative energy of the artist at a pivotal moment in his career. Alongside him, Concetto Pozzati is represented by two playful works from the 1970s: the large-format canvas Va allo zoo con Paul(1973), an affectionate and ironic homage to Paul Klee, and Mausoleo per una pera (1971), a refined balance of irony, reflection, and painterly invention.
Italian twentieth-century art is conveyed through the vibrant and essential painting of the Still Life (1949) by Filippo De Pisis, the expressive solidity of Xavier Bueno’s Profile of a Girl, the evocative imagery of Riccardo Tommasi Ferroni, and the luminosity of Festa a Portofino by Michele Cascella. Also featured are Giovanni Boldini with an elegant and dynamic scene of “Dancers,” and Luca Alinari, represented by two works marked by intense chromatic ranges and a strong visionary imprint.
The catalogue also includes important abstract contributions, such as the 2010 canvas Untitled (Ossimori) by Luigi Carboni, with its brilliant, layered painting, and two works by André Lanskoy, recognisable for their vivid colour and rhythmic compositions. Joining them are the works of Ortelli, Nanni, Romiti, and Gottarelli, which broaden the scope of abstract research through varied chromatic and compositional solutions. Completing this section are the 1950s–60s landscapes by Pompilio Mandelli, defined by essential strokes and rigorous structure, alongside Thomas Demand’s photographs Towels and Copyshop, noted for their extreme visual precision and almost scenographic control of space.
The sale also includes sculpture, such as the compact and incisive black marble piece by Franco Adami, two bronzes by Augusto Murer with their solid and vibrant modelling, the terracotta Maternity by Cleto Tomba, and a wood-and-metal work by Mario Nanni, characterised by its light and tactile gesture.
The catalogue is completed by a selection of artist’s multiples and Italian and international graphic works: from an intense artist’s proof by Hermann Nitsch, to an iconic canvas décollage by Mimmo Rotella, and from the delicate parchment froissages by Ladislav Novák to the ink drawings by Carlo Aymonino, adding further nuances and depth to the department’s offering.
