Auction 88 – A Tuscan Residence

Gregory’s announces the conclusion of Auction 88 – A Tuscan Residence, dedicated to the 439 lots from a historic residence in Prato. Moreover, the sale achieved a sell-through rate between 70% and 80%. As a result, this confirms the strong interest in collections from private estates and in rich, well-structured catalogues such as the one presented.

Ancient paintings achieved some of the most notable results. For instance, the 17th-century painting Esaù che vende la primogenitura a Giacobbe was sold for €6,875. Furthermore, the Natura morta con tappeto, frutta e fiori by a 17th-century French Master reached €4,500. Likewise, the Coppia di nature morte con fiori, attributed to a 17th-century Tuscan Master, sold for €4,250. In addition, excellent results were obtained by the portrait of Luigi Serra (Venice, 1877), which sold for €4,000, and by The Penitent Magdalene with Two Angels, attributed to the circle of Bartolomeo Schedoni, which reached €2,500.

In the furniture and period objects section, results were equally strong. Notably, the splendid 17th-century Emilian-Tuscan mirror achieved the highest figure, with a hammer price of €8,125. Following this, the Milanese safe by Giovanni Malizia (1822) sold for €4,000. Additionally, the 18th-century Emilian chest of drawers reached €3,000. Finally, the large 16th-century Tuscan torchère sold for €2,750.

Overall, these results demonstrate a strong interest in Ancient paintings. At the same time, they reveal a solid response in the furniture section, confirming the appreciation for the variety and quality of the lots offered.
