Auction 73 – MODERN & CONTEMPORARY ART

Auction 73 | MODERN & CONTEMPORARY ART – Tuesday, June 25th starting at 3:00 PM.

Participation was possible online, through written or phone bids, and prior to the event, artworks featured in the catalog could be viewed in person during the exhibition held from June 19th to 24th, excluding Saturday and Sunday.

The auction featured contemporary artworks from the 20th and 21st centuries by national and international artists from significant private collections.

Leading the selection is Giorgio Morandi, represented in the catalog with two etchings: “Piccola natura morta con tre oggetti” from 1961 and “Campo da tennis ai Giardini Margherita” from 1921. Staying within the Bolognese context, there are rare etchings by Paolo Manaresi (lots 42434445) and another important engraving is “I coleotteri strani” by the Maestro Luigi Bartolini.

The selection continues with “Strada di Parigi” an oil on canvas from 1927 by Filippo De Pisis; an examples of Mario Sironi‘s work, represented in the auction with the oil on masonite “Personaggi” and “Amalassunta“, a drawing on paper by Osvaldo Licini.

Among the Italian masters of the second half of the 20th century, we find the 1961 polymaterial collage by Lucio Del Pezzo depicting the “Ritratto del Prof. G. Kaisserlian“; “Concetto spaziale” mixed media on paper by Lucio Fontana; “Reticolo” a watercolor from 1983 by Piero Dorazio; “Fortificato” enamel and acrylic on canvas created by Mario Schifano in 1988 and a pencil on paper depicting a face by Gino De Dominicis. The catalog also includes sculptures by Giò Pomodoro (“Tensione” and “Piccola Folla B“) and “Incontro di Teano” created by Quinto Ghermandi.

Among the selected works, there are also important examples by international artists, particularly the intense “Study for ‘Crucifixion’” by Graham Vivian Sutherland from 1946 and the terracotta-vase sculpture by Pablo Picasso.

We conclude with significant contemporary works from the 21st century: “Canaveral” by Ian Monroe; the “Penas” series by Portuguese artist Francisco Tropa; “Section demonstrating pre and post decorative schemes” created in 2014 by Pablo Bronstein in dialogue with Leon Battista Alberti’s Tempietto del Santo Sepolcro in the Rucellai Chapel, and the monumental work by Nick van Woert, “A Fate Worse Than Dead“. Additionally, we highlight photographs by artists Gregory Crewdson (lot 26) and “Towsend #31″ and “Towsend #32” by Thomas Demand.
