Auction 87 – DESIGN AND DECORATIVE ARTS OF THE 20TH CENTURY

Gregory’s opens the autumn season with an event dedicated to Design and Decorative Arts of the 20th Century, scheduled for 7 October at 3:00 p.m. at Palazzo Brazzetti – Bologna. The Auction 87 catalogue features 161 lots, spanning the styles, materials and languages of some of the key figures in the history of design.
Among the most iconic lots are several works by Alessandro Mendini, including the “Golden Gate“ table and the “Micromacro“ vase, exemplary of his ironic and conceptual vision. Marcello Morandini is represented by the “Posseduta” chair and the “Contenuta” sideboard, where geometry and furniture merge. Mimmo Paladino signs the “Battaglia di San Romano Sideboard” for Cleto Munari and the “Agamennone” vase, bringing his art into the realm of design.
Other notable pieces include the “La Bocca della Verità” bed by Mario Ceroli for Poltronova; the ceramic vase “Yantra 31 “ by Ettore Sottsass; creations by Simone Crestani such as the “Bubble Console” and “Glassbonsai”; and the set consisting of a sofa and three “Panchetto” armchairs designed in the 1960s by Rito Valla.
The catalogue also presents works by Bruno Munari, Enzo Mari, and international designers such as Alvar Aalto, Eero Saarinen, Jasper Morrison, Rodney Kinsman, Sylvia Stave, and Kazuhide Takahama. A special section is devoted to Faenza ceramics by Carlo Zauli, Pietro Melandri, and Riccardo Gatti, alongside 20th-century Murano glass, highlighting the great Italian artisanal tradition.
The live auction will take place on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, starting at 3:00 p.m., with the possibility of participating online, by phone, or by written bid.
The exhibition of lots will be open 1–6 October 2025 (closed Saturday and Sunday) from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
