In light of the successful results achieved in the sales of Contemporary Art Auctions featuring works by both Italian and international contemporary artists, the contemporary art auction department is one of the flagship sectors of Gregory’s Auction House.
The great dynamism and growth in investments in 20th-century art, coupled with Gregory’s experts’ special focus on contemporary art, strongly drive the expansion of this sector, which is expected to become increasingly rich with works and dedicated auctions.
Gregory’s is committed to enhancing not only already well-known contemporary artworks, but also unpublished works, those from major historical avant-gardes, or emerging artistic movements, carefully selected and appraised with great expertise and reliability.
Following careful studies and research, contemporary artworks are accompanied by the necessary certificates of authenticity.
Gregory’s Modern and Contemporary Art Auctions
Gregory’s boasts significant success in modern and contemporary art auctions, particularly with works by the Bolognese painter Sergio Romiti (Bologna 1928 – 2000), among the best in Italy. Notably, his 1959 oil on canvas titled “Composizione,” exhibited at the 1960 Venice International Art Biennale, with stamps and labels from various major galleries, was sold for €9,300. Another oil painting by Sergio Romiti from 1955 achieved €10,292.
Another Bolognese artist whose works have passed through our auctions is Giorgio Morandi (Bologna 1890 – 1964), whose drawing “Conchiglie,” showcasing the master’s refined style and featured in important Italian and international exhibitions, was sold for over €30,000.
Gregory’s offers a wide catalog featuring renowned international artists such as Andy Warhol (Pittsburgh 1928 – New York 1987), whose color silkscreen featuring the face of Marilyn Monroe was sold for €33,480.
Among the best results, we also have “La Valle,” a captivating oil on canvas signed by Salvo (Salvatore Mangione, Leonforte, 1947 – Turin, 2015), published in full-page in ‘Nuova Icona-Palazzo Ducale Urbino, Sale del Castellare,’ curated by Bruno Bandini, which achieved an auction result of over €22,000.
A recent sale of Mario Schifano’s “En Plen Air,” an interesting mixed media on paper from 1963, fetched €10,912.
The Gregory’s catalogs also include important names such as Xavier Bueno, Vasco Bendini, Marco Gastini, Roy Lichtenstein, Cleto Tomba, Luciano Minguzzi, and many others.
Gregory’s offers specialized consultancy and appraisals, relying on an in-depth knowledge of the Italian and international contemporary art market and the collaboration of esteemed experts.
